NWS set to offer weather spotter training

PENDLETON, Ore. - Volunteers are being sought to participate in the latest weather spotter training on May 8th in Madras and Prineville, May 27 and 28 in Bend and Warm Springs. 

Weather spotters trained by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) are key volunteers who assist the meteorologists by providing up-to-date information about storm activity. 

The Skywarn Weather Spotter training is free.  In Madras, the training will be held in the Sheriff's Office Conference Room, located at 675 NW Cherry Lane, beginning at 1 p.m. May 8th.  That evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m., the training will be in Prineville at the Fire and Rescue Training Room, located at 500 NW Belknap, with the entrance on the east side.

On May 27, the training will be coming to Bend on the 2nd floor of the 911 Center, located at 20355 Poe Sholes Drive, beginning at 6:30 p.m. 

The training will finish up the next morning in Warm Springs at Kahneeta Resort, located at 6823 Highway 8, beginning at 10 a.m.

The training is co-sponsored by the Emergency Management of Crook, Jefferson, and Deschutes counties and the Warm Springs Tribal Nation.  Light refreshments and door prizes will be at all the sessions.
