Cincinnati Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton injured his left hand while making a diving catch in the first inning of a game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night in Cincinnati.
Hamilton sprained knuckles while extending to grab a hard-hit ball by Milwaukee's Carlos Gomez on Homer Bailey's first pitch of the game. He is expected to be out several days.
The rookie landed on his left side and was in obvious pain when he got up. After Hamilton returned to the dugout when the half-inning ended, he was replaced by pinch-hitter Chris Heisey.
In 26 games this season, the speedy Hamilton is batting .245 with one home run and six RBIs and has stolen 11 bases in 16 attempts.
