McCutchen joined Josh Harrison by scoring twice and Starling Marte had an RBI single as Pittsburgh swept visiting Philadelphia for the first time since April 19-21, 2002. Marlon Byrd belted a solo homer for the second straight contest and added an RBI single for the reeling Phillies, who have dropped nine of their last 10 outings. Fellow former Pirate A.J. Burnett (5-8) permitted three runs on five hits and struck out seven in as many innings to take the hard-luck loss.Philadelphia scratched for a run in the top of the first before Martin erased the deficit by ripping a 3-2 fastball from Burnett to right field to plate McCutchen and Neil Walker in the bottom of the frame. Walker wasn't done as his sacrifice fly to shallow center scored Harrison, who tripled to lead off the third.Byrd trimmed the deficit by depositing a curveball from Locke (2-1) into the seats in left for his team-leading 18th homer in the seventh.
