There are 38 days remaining before the 2014 Daytona 500; hence, the number for today is:
38: The number of career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series poles accumulated by hard-charging Buddy Baker, who ran his first NASCAR Sprint Cup race in 1959 and his last in 1992. Baker was a terror on the big tracks, recording all but two of his 19 career wins on speedways measuring 1.366 miles or longer.
Baker also had a penchant for the marquee races. He won four times each at Talladega and Charlotte (including three victories in the Coca-Cola 600) and notched one triumph each in two of NASCAR's other crown jewels, the Southern 500 at Darlington (1970) and the Daytona 500 (1980).
