The Detroit Lions don’t have a single specialist under contract, but that could change by the end of business Tuesday. The Lions have a workout scheduled for a host of punters, kickers and long snappers. Blake Clingan, who last punted in 2010 for Central Florida, tweeted that he’ll take part in the workout. The Lions used three different punters last season -- including kicker Jason Hanson as a fill-in -- and tied for 30th in the league in net punting average. Nick Harris, who finished the season with the team, is not expected to return, Hanson still has not decided whether he wants to play a 22nd season, and long snapper Don Muhlbach, a Pro Bowler last year, is a free agent. Lions coach Jim Schwartz said last month he wasn’t opposed to using a draft pick on a punter "if he's good," and the Lions met with several at the NFL combine, including Ball State’s Scott Kovanda (Novi Detroit Catholic Central), Arizona State’s Josh Hubner and LSU’s Brad Wing. The Lions also are looking to upgrade their return game this off-season.
