Miami Heat forward LeBron James was scratched from Sunday's game against the Chicago Bulls because of a broken nose.
The injury occurred Thursday night when James was inadvertently hit in the face by Oklahoma City Thunder center Serge Ibaka while James was driving to the basket with 5:56 remaining in the fourth quarter of Miami's win.
James' nose was reset by a doctor Friday and he missed practice Saturday. He will miss just his second game of the season.
Coach Erik Spoelstra said the decision to sit James was made about two hours before tipoff.
"He didn't stand up and put up his dukes and fight us," Spoelstra said. "We still understand the big picture. The fact that we don't play until Thursday, it makes the most sense."
If James returns for the Heat's home game Thursday against the New York Knicks, that gives him a week of rest.
The only game James missed this season was a Dec. 28 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, when he sat out with a strained groin and sprained ankle.
