Hirschbeck named World Series crew chief
Umpire has worked 3 previous World Series
John Hirschbeck has been named the crew chief for the 2013 World Series between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals.
Hirschbeck, who will be behind the plate for Game 1 at Fenway Park on Wednesday, has worked three previous World Series, including one as the crew chief in 2010.
The umpiring crew will also include regular-season crew chiefs Dana DeMuth and Jim Joyce along with umpires Paul Emmel, Bill Miller and Mark Wegner.
All six members of the crew worked the Division Series round of the 2013 postseason, with Hirschbeck and DeMuth also serving as the crew chiefs for their series.
DeMuth will work his fifth World Series, joining Gerry Davis and Joe West for most among active umpires.
The crew will also wear a "WB" patch in honor of 21-year Major League umpire Wally Bell, who passed away on Oct. 14.
