PRINEVILLE, Ore. -

The 21st annual Senior Fishing Derby at Walton Lake will take place as planned next Wednesday, despite the recent flurry of fire activity.

The event will occur from 8 am to noon on Wednesday, July 30, at Walton Lake campground.

The forest surrounding Walton Lake remains under an area closure order due to ongoing firefighting efforts in the vicinity.

But the current closure order provides an open travel route to Walton Lake from Ochoco Ranger Station along Forest Road 22. Ochoco Ranger Station is about 23 miles east of Prineville following Highway 26 and then County Road 123.

There is no charge for participation in the derby. Registration begins at 7:30 am at the Walton Lake boat ramp.

The derby is sponsored by Trout Unlimited, Aud & Di Campground Services, Inc., and the Ochoco National Forest. Prizes are donated by local businesses. Please see attached flyer.
