The Boys & Girls Clubs of Redmond/Terrebonne have announced that the opening of new programming in the clubs will be delayed until October 6th due to insufficient funding.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon recently reorganized into two new organizations, one serving Bend and one serving Redmond and Terrebonne, allowing each to focus on local fundraising while continuing to meet the ongoing needs of children.
In an effort to expand its services, the new Boys & Girls Clubs of Redmond/Terrebonne have partnered with the Redmond School District, who previously operated the Community Learning Center program in schools that serve the district’s most concentrated populations of at-risk students.
These combined efforts will offer life-enriching, healthy, before and after-school activities for children ages 6 through 18.
With the recent sunset of grants that support the CLC program, the success of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Redmond/Terrebonne is essential, the organization said.
To sustain the clubs for a year, the clubs need $175,000 to support a membership of more than 500 children a year, they said.
"BGCRT has secured generous commitments," a news release said. "However, much more is needed to make the program a reality for the families in Redmond and Terrebonne."
Although children and families count on the clubs to be open to meet their needs, the clubs said they "felt it necessary to delay the opening until October 6 until the necessary resources needed to provide and sustain quality programming are available."
The clubs are seeking assistance from local businesses, families and individuals to help provide access for the children in Redmond and Terrebonne.
Those interested in making a donation or learning more about BGCRT can contact Brandi McClennen, Development Director, at 541-617-2877 ext. 12.
