Prineville man charged in DUII hit-and-run crash

Police say he walked away from Hwy. 126 rear-ender

PRINEVILLE, Ore. - A 21-year-old Prineville man was arrested on DUII and hit-and-run charges early Tuesday after allegedly walking away from a rear-end crash on Highway 126 near the Ochoco Viewpoint, police said.

Dispatchers got a report around 1:10 a.m. of the rear-end crash near the entrance to the viewpoint, said Police Chief Eric Bush. The caller indicated the driver who caused the collision had fled on foot, and police, assisted by Crook County sheriff's deouties, responded to the scene.

The 28-year-old man whose vehicle was rear-ended was driving a private security car, Bush said. He was taken to Pioneer Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Bush said.

Sheriff's deputies located the driver, identified as Nicholas Alexander Letteriello, walking in the area of Cliffside Lane, near the crash scene, the police chief said.

Letteriello was taken into custody and taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries from the collision, Bush said. Due to his injuries, Letteriello was cited and released at the hospital, he said.

Letteriello is charged with DUII, injury hit and run (failure to perform the duties of a driver), reckless driving and reckless endangering.
