Prepare for winter travel, ODOT urges
Passes may see up to half-foot of snow
With winter weather conditions forecast for this week, ODOT (Region 4/Central Oregon) is preparing for tough motoring conditions and is asking motorists to do the same.
Forecasters indicate that temperatures will remain below freezing beginning Monday night and continuing through the week including during daylight hours. ODOT anticipates accumulations of snowfall on the highways of Central Oregon, and mountain passes may receive up to 6 inches of snow.
In addition to having highway maintenance crews out on 24/7 patrol, ODOT has pre-positioned resources for use to keep motorists safe. Those resources include heavy equipment for plowing mountain passes, and cinders and deicer for use as necessary.
ODOT urges travelers to pay close attention to weather forecasts, include emergency supplies in vehicles, and to visit Tripcheck.com to learn about highway conditions ahead of travel.
