ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — The Port of Astoria has named an executive from Washington state as its fifth leader in less than three years.

The Daily Astorian reports (http://bit.ly/1waotoJ) Jim Knight has been director of the Port of Olympia marine terminal since July 2013.

Knight was chosen Tuesday to succeed Hank Bynaker, who resigned Sept. 11 after 14 months as the port's last hired executive director.

Bynaker succeeded Jack Crider, who resigned in 2012. Interim leaders were named after each resignation. The most recent of them, Michael Weston, was a finalist for the top job and was authorized to continue until Knight takes over.

The paper reports that emotional disagreements among board members have been a factor in the succession of directors.

The five-member board has gotten four new members in the last year.
