Miami-Dade County became the first place in Florida to allow same-sex couples to marry on Monday, half a day before a gay-marriage ban that has been ruled unconstitutional is lifted in the rest of the state. Here's a look at the path same-sex marriage has taken across the country.

The New Mexico Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in that state in December 2013, declaring it is unconstitutional to deny a marriage license to gay and lesbian couples.
