BEND, Ore. - Deschutes County has appointed Nick Lelack as the Director of the Community Development Department. Nick replaces Tom Anderson, who was recently promoted to county administrator.
County Administrator Tom Anderson stated, "As Planning Director, Nick has been directly involved in community issues throughout the county. He has an incredible sense of the values held by citizens, and this will serve him well in continuing to position the Community Development Department to meet the needs of our various stakeholders."
The Deschutes County Community Development Department provides services related to planning, building safety, code enforcement, and environmental soils (on-site septic systems and monitoring area groundwater). As part of a restructuring within the Community Development Department, Nick will continue to serve as the Deschutes County Planning Director.
Chair of the Board of Commissioners Alan Unger says, "Nick is recognized statewide for his Oregon planning expertise. I am pleased with his promotion as the Director of CDD."
Nick Lelack had been serving as Interim CDD Director since October 29, 2012. He was originally hired by Deschutes County in January 2009 as the Planning Director. Prior to his employment with Deschutes County, Nick served as the Planning Manager and Planning Director for the City of Redmond from October 2005 to December 2008. His other professional experience includes working for a planning consulting firm; 1,000 Friends of Wisconsin; the City of Aspen, Colorado; Pitkin County, Colorado; and U.S. Senator Bob Packwood. Nick has a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Willamette University and master's degrees in Public Administration, and Community and Regional Planning from the University of Oregon.
"Nick is a strong leader who believes in serving the public, and understands the role of CDD and economic development. He values County partnerships with other jurisdictions and is a respected leader across Oregon. We're fortunate to have him on our team," said Commissioner Tammy Baney.
