2,800-acre fire east of The Dalles threatens homes, I-84 partly open

Authorities say a fire that broke out early Thursday evening grew to nearly 3,000 acres by nightfall and was threatening homes about six miles east of The Dalles, closing a 20-mile stretch of Interstate 84 in the Columbia River Gorge.
