Bend stabbing victim recovering; police offer details

A 60-year-old Bend woman, stabbed in the chest by her 23-year-old son, was in good condition Thursday at St. Charles Bend as police confirmed that the young man shot and killed himself after police arrived on scene.

1869: The largest alluvial gold nugget in history, called the "Welcome Stranger," is found in Moliagul, Victoria, Australia. The nugget measured 24 inches by 12 inches and weighed more than 240 pounds. It's estimated that the value of the nugget in 2013 dollars would have been more than $3.7 million.
