Mtn. View Hospital becomes St. Charles-Madras Jan. 1

Madras hospital becomes fourth in system

MADRAS, Ore. - Mountain View Hospital will join St. Charles Health System on Jan. 1, becoming the fourth hospital in the region to be operated by the nonprofit company, the organizations said Tuesday.

The boards of both organizations have finalized an agreement outlining the major terms and conditions of an asset transfer that will include offering employment to Mountain View's 220 caregivers.

The transaction includes a significant infusion of capital into Mountain View's operations, ensuring the hospital is able to make much-needed facility upgrades and enhance its information technology infrastructure.

St. Charles also plans to maintain a similar level of services — including obstetrical care — and make available on its board a seat for a Mountain View Hospital appointee for a three-year term.

"We're pleased to welcome Mountain View Hospital and the Jefferson County community to the St. Charles family," said James A. Diegel, FACHE, president and CEO of St. Charles Health System. "This move will help better coordinate the delivery of care for the benefit of patients throughout our region."

St. Charles has provided management services to Mountain View since 1998 and has shared patients, physicians and caregivers, paving the way for a deeper strategic partnership.

"Our board is confident that this is the right move at the right time," said Jeanine A. Gentry, FACHE, CEO of Mountain View Hospital. "We will still offer the same excellent service as we have since 1967, but now we will have even more resources to help us serve the people of Jefferson County for years to come."

Hospital spokeswoman Lisa Goodman said the Madras hospital will change its name to St. Charles Madras in the new year. She added that there are no immediate plans to change the name of Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Prineville. In recent years, the health system has quietly shortened its other two hospitals' names to St. Charles Bend and St. Charles Redmond.
