“Given the threat he posed to them and to the public, the troopers had a duty to stop and arrest Mr. Hall,” Flaherty concluded.

After issuing the report, Flaherty told NewsChannel 21, “We’re all thankful that no innocent civilians or police officers were injured” in the incident.

But echoing what police often say after such encounters, the DA said, “All law enforcement are trained to shoot until they stop the threat.”

Coincidentally, Sherman County DA Wade McLeod issued a similar finding of justified shooting Tuesday in an Aug. 20 incident along Interstate 84 near Biggs Junction, in which Trooper Matt Zistel fatally shot John Van Allen II, 34, a motorist who had wounded him.
