JEFFERSON, Ore. (AP) — Firefighters in Marion County say a state-owned island in the Santiam River is expected to burn for several days, creating heavy smoke.

The Jefferson Fire District said the wildfire on Wiseman Island was reported Tuesday, and firefighters are unable to reach it.

Firefighters say the state Fish and Wildlife Department decided to let the fire burn.

The fire department says no structures are threatened, and there have been no injuries.
