BEND, Ore. - (Update: Comments from neighbor, fire inspector; video of scene)
A travel trailer was destroyed by a fire Sunday afternoon in Deschutes River Woods, south of Bend, as flames quickly spread to a nearby mobile home, trees, vehicles and a fence, officials said.
The fire was reported in the 603000 block of Zuni Circle shortly before 3 p.m. and within minutes engulfed the RV, with pine trees also burned.
Numerous Bend fire units were called out to stop the blaze, as well as Forest Service wildfire response rigs, to keep it from spreading further into the brush and trees.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Next-door neighbor Larry Lundquist said, "I went back to my garage to get a Pepsi, and I turned around and saw the RV on fire."
Lundquist thought he heard two propane tanks explode, but Bend Fire Inspector Steve Stenkamp said the propane tanks were found to be intact.
"Any time you have a structure fire, there's always lots of noise - things that go pop, things that break," Stenkamp said. "And so, we had reports of a propane tank explosion. There was no propane tank that exploded."
