PRINEVILLE, Ore. -

The Red Cross was called in to assist a displaced family after a fire heavily damaged their northeast Prineville duplex Saturday night, officials said.

Crook County Fire and Rescue crews were called out around 9:45 a.m. to a fire at a duplex in the 200 block of NE Holly Street, the agency reported.

Two engines and one ambulance responded to the fire, and crews quickly brought it under control, but not before it destroyed the kitchen and caused significant damage elsewhere in the residence, according to fire officials.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

The Oregon chapter of the American Red Cross said it is assisting the two adults and a child displaced by the fire, providing emergency help with lodging, food, infant supplies, comfort kids and information about health and mental health services.
