Deschutes bike/pedestrian panel seeks La Pine-area member

The Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee seeks a volunteer applicant living in the La Pine area.

Composed of 13 voting members, BPAC's mission is to promote and encourage safe bicycling and walking as a significant means of transportation in Deschutes County. The Deschutes County Board of Commissioners will approve this vacancy.

BPAC is seeking a volunteer candidate from Deschutes County. Candidates with a background and/or interest in cycling and pedestrian issues are encouraged to apply.

A majority of the monthly meetings takes place in Bend from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. Voting members are asked to serve a three-year term.

The committee's goals include the development of a coordinated system of safe and convenient bikeways and walkways, stimulating public awareness of bicycling and pedestrian issues, and examining current and future financing options and budget strategies for bicycle and pedestrian projects.

Besides the 13 volunteer members, meetings are often attended by staff from cities of Bend, La Pine, Redmond, and Sisters, Deschutes County, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).

BPAC advises Deschutes County and local jurisdictions in bicycle and pedestrian transportation  matters pertaining to existing and proposed road construction and signing. The Committee is a source of current information relating to the use of bicycling and walking and strives to support them as a viable means of transportation in Deschutes County.

Please apply by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29. The Board application process will remain open until filled. The Board hopes to appoint the new Committee member in September.
