Culver man charged in Redmond DUII crash

Pickup rear-ended SUV at Highland-Ninth intersection

REDMOND, Ore. - A 21-year-old Culver man was arrested on DUII and other charges Saturday night after a rear-end crash at a southwest Redmond intersection that sent seven people to the hospital to be checked for apparently minor injuries, police said.

Police and fire medics were called around 7:25 p.m. to the reported crash at the intersection of SW Highland Avenue and Ninth Street, said Lt. Keith Knight. They arrived to find a blue 2006 Dodge 3500 pickup truck had crashed into the rear of a black 2003 GMC Denali SUV, Knight said.

Extrication tools were used to remove the occupants of the vehicles, and due to the number of possible injuries, Redmond Fire requested mutual-aid help from Crooked River Ranch fire medics, Knight said.

Logan Jones, 21, of Culver, was alone in the pickup, while the Denali was occupied by two adults and four juveniles.

Witnesses and those involved said the SUV was waiting at the light while eastbound on Highland and the pickup failed to stop in time. Investigators determined alcohol appeared to play a role in the crash, and Jones was arrested by citation on DUII and other charges and released to hospital staff, Knight said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information was asked to contact Redmond police at (541) 504-3400 or the Deschutes County non-emergency dispatch number, (541) 693-6911, and refer to case No. 14-29500.

Knight reminded drivers to drive sober, as "even small amounts of intoxicants can affect your ability to operate a motor vehicle safely."
