Marion Co. boy, 4, dies of gunshot wound

Authorities ID victim but say little; 'no suspects sought'

DONALD, Ore. - A 4-year-old boy was killed Saturday by a gunshot in the small Marion County town of Donald, but investigators who identified the victim Sunday said little pending an autopsy and further investigation.

Here's the Marion County Sheriff's Office news release, issued Sunday evening:

Yesterday, Marion County deputies worked into the late evening investigating the death of a 4-year old child from Donald.

They originally responded to a report of a gunshot being fired in a residence in the 10000 block of Main Street NE, in Donald.

The child is identified as Cody R. Hall.  The preliminary investigation indicates that he died at the scene from a single gunshot wound.

"The investigation remains active and the child's autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning," the announcement said.

"Investigators are confident that there is no risk to the safety of the community," they said, "and no suspects are being sought in connection with the child's death."

At this time, no information is being released relative to the firearm involved in the incident, deputies said.

Once the investigation is complete, Marion County detectives and the District Attorney's Office will review the investigation to determine whether a crime occurred.

The family remains unavailable for media interviews.  Currently no photo is available of the victim.
