Wilkinson names assistant principals

Bend-La Pine Schools Superintendent Ron Wilkinson announced the names of five staff membes who will assume assistant principal roles next school year.

"Karen Stiner will serve as interim assistant principal at Bend Senior High School next year," he said. "While Brooke Davis, Jen Healy, Josh Marks and Ned Meyers will move from their student services positions into half-time assistant principal roles."

Stiner has worked with students at Bend's High Desert Middle School for the last 12 years.

"I am excited and thrilled to be a part of the Bend High family," she said. "An added benefit is that I am able to take my current eighth graders to their freshman year of high school and see how my former students have matured through their years at Bend High."

Prior to becoming a teacher, Stiner worked in Aerospace. She has earned many awards during her teaching career including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching and the Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow award. Stiner also serves on the statewide Distinguished Educator panel.

Wilkinson said that Marks was selected to become R.E. Jewell Elementary School's assistant principal after a daylong interview process. He is currently in his third year as student services coordinator at Three Rivers School in Sunriver. He has been with Bend-La Pine Schools for ten years.

"I am honored and excited for the opportunity to join the R.E. Jewell team and to be part of the history and community that currently exists," said Marks. "I can't wait to start getting to know all of the students and their families and to immerse myself in the culture that makes R.E. Jewell such a great place."

Davis has served as student services coordinator for the last five years at Bend's Ensworth and Ponderosa Elementary schools. She has worked in education for 20 years.

Healy has served as student services coordinator at Bend's W.E. Miller Elementary School for the last six years. She has worked in education for 20 years.

Meyers has served as student services coordinator at Bend's Lava Ridge Elementary School for the last three years. He has worked in education for 16 years.

Wilkinson said that these five individuals are excellent teacher leaders and have distinguished themselves in the classroom, "I am happy to promote them to these instructional leadership positions."

"The district has been working hard to restore the support in schools that was cut due to the reduction in state school funding during the recession," he said. "Reinstating these part-time assistant principals will allow our schools to better support students, teachers and families."

The new assistant principals will assume their new roles on July 1, 2014.
