BEND, Ore. - Sun Country Tours raised a combined total of $2,000 for the Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon with two recent fundraising trips.
On Sunday, August 25, Sun Country Tours hosted a Big Eddy Thriller whitewater rafting trip to benefit MBSEF, which raised $1,100 for the student athlete foundation.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon benefited from a special Big Eddy Thriller on Sunday, September 8, which raised $900 for the local non profit.
Sun Country Tours President Dennis Oliphant, who is a longtime advocate of charities that serve children, says fundraising trips are a great way to give back to the
"We are honored to be in a position to offer a fun way to raise money to local charities that serve our kids," says Oliphant, who serves as the board chairman for MBSEF.
"Offering whitewater rafting trips at a discount and donating the proceeds is a win-win for our guests and the organizations who benefit. We are thrilled with the support of the local community who participated in these two trips."
In addition to volunteering his time to various organizations including MBSEF, Oliphant established the Sun Country Tours Foundation more than 20 years ago. The non-profit foundation donates more than $20,000 annually to local organizations that specifically focus on youth, education and environmental causes.
The proceeds raised for MBSEF will be allocated for the scholarship fund by the
foundation, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Oregon will use the money raised from their trip to provide tutoring assistance for students who have fallen behind academically over the summer.
The final fundraising trip of the 2013 season is this Sunday, September 15, which will
benefit the Deschutes Children's Forest. Cost is $25 per person, and all proceeds will
be donated. Limited space is available for this trip, and reservations must be made in
advance by calling Sun Country Tours at 541.382.6277. The Big Eddy Thriller is Sun
Country Tours' most popular, and convenient, whitewater rafting adventure. This familyfriendly trip is appropriate for kids ages 6 and older.
