The free counseling sessions will provide a community service and allow master's students to implement and develop expertise under the close supervision of faculty and clinical supervisors.
The counseling will be provided by graduate students who are receiving supervision in cognitive processing therapy and in person-centered therapy, two techniques shown to be effective in helping individuals manage stress, anxiety, depression and trauma.
Participation in the free counseling requires advance registration and is limited to weekly 50-minute sessions to take place over 11 weeks starting in January 2013. Sessions will take place at the Graduate & Research Center in Bend and at the South Deschutes County Services Building in La Pine.
OSU-Cascades' counseling program is accredited by the Council for Accrediting Counseling and Related Educational Programs.
