Matt Emigh of Bend served in the Marine Corps from Sept. 2008 to Sept. 2012, serving one tour in Afghanistan

Originally from Crescent City, Calif., the couple moved to Bend after he left active duty; she says her mom married a Bend man "and we loved it when we came to visit.'
Jack Ensworth, 87, of Bend -- for whom Ensworth Elementary is named -- served in the Army's 282 Combat engineers during World War II and was in several battles in central Europe, was part of the Army of occupation in Germany

Marla Steeley writes, 'My 8-year-old third-grader Aspyn participated in the Eastmont Community School Veterans Day celebration. She wanted to go to the parade today to show her appreciation. She waved her very own flag that she brought proudly to everyone that went by.'

He was deployed to Iraq in 2009 and now serves in the Oregon National Guard in Bend and is the 'backbone of our organization' which is dedicated to training and recruiting service dogs for veterans battling PTSD
Jimmy Sehorn served with Charlie Company 3-116th CAV in Iraq 2010-2011. He now lives in Redmond and works as the Employment Dept. veterans' representative
Army Sgt. Patrick Poore served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, an 11-month tour in Iraq in 2003, stayed in the service until 2008
Heather Sissel shared a photo of her husband, Jason Sissel of Bend, when he was in Iraq: 'He is a Wounded Warrior and my hero!' Jason was active duty Marines and active duty Army. He was injured in Iraq and medically discharged in 2005. He grew up in Bend (Alfalfa) and graduated in 1992 from Redmond High School.

Lisa Ewing shared a photo of her late father, Air Force Master Sgt. Rickie D. Ewing, who served four tours, had a family with two children, and was finishing up 20 years of service and was in Bend when he died of a massive heart attack at the age of 38. "He was a good hard-working loving man that died way to young," daughter Lisa wrote, "but he was always there for his country. We miss him so much.'
Army combat medic Cpl. Nolan Howell was deployed to the city of Hit, Iraq during his 2005-08 service, received a purple heart for injuries received from an IED blast in 2006. Now medically retired, he serves as a student ministries pastor at Faith Christian Center in Bend

Mitch McCluhan says his dad, WW II veteran Bill McCluhan, turned 90 in June and lives in Bend. He says his father served in communications for the Army Air Force on Shemya (an Aleutian Island) during the war and was honorably discharged on 11/10/1945

He is my best friend and father,' along with his wife, Suci Sonnier, 'retired Air Force and the best mother. She does everything for her kids, no matter what it is. ...
