BEND, Ore. -

The Oregon Concrete & Aggregate Producers Association and the Oregon Chapter of the American Concrete Institute recently honored the City of Bend with their “Excellence in Concrete” Award for the three Roundabouts constructed last year as part of the voter approved transportation G.O. Bond Program.

The OACI named the set of three concrete roundabouts at Empire Ave./18th St., Mt Washington Dr./Simpson Ave., and Brookswood Blvd./Powers Rd., as its 2013 Paving Award winner.

Projects selected by the OACI represent excellence in structural and architectural design as well as the unique, innovative and sustainable uses of concrete in Oregon & SW Washington construction projects.

Each roundabout consisted of single and partial multi-lanes with concrete designs of 9”-10” thick, plain, undowled and dowled Class 4000 concrete.

All roundabouts utilized standard and high strength 5,000 psi curbs with Propex, Fibermesh #300 fibrillated synthetic fiber.  The colored-stamped concrete consisted of random stone, Flagstone TM700, concrete stamp with Davis Spanish Gold integral color and Davis Dark Grey release color.  The concrete design considered a 30 year design life.
