Bend diaper bank expected to open next year

The Rebecca Foundation said Thursday it plans to open Bend's first diaper bank in 2018.

Diaper need in the United States affects 1 in 3 families, especially so in Central Oregon. Many families will have to choose between either purchasing diapers or food. At this time there are zero government or state assistance programs that help struggling families purchase diapers for their children. Bend currently has very few resources or options for in need families who are desperate for diaper assistance.

The Rebecca Foundation believes that every child and individual deserves access to clean diapers and personal hygiene products. We are empowering struggling families by providing a reliable resource for cloth and disposable diapers, reusable cloth pads and menstrual cups and more.

We are partnering with Pure Light Family Chiropractic, which has donated their office space allowing us to open the doors to distribute cloth and disposable diapers to in need families on a personal bases each week. Families who are in need may complete an online application at www.clothforall.org or stop in during working hours for the diaper bank in 2018 to complete a simple application. Diapers will be distributed the same day.

Diaper drives will take place throughout the city to collect disposable and cloth donations. We are looking to collect 10,000 diapers in all sizes and types prior to our opening.

Local businesses and other nonprofits wishing to help collect diapers should contact Amanda La Bell at amanda@clothforall.org or (541) 540-9442. Individuals and business wishing to give monetary donations may do so online via www.clothforall.org or mail to 2660 NE Highway 20, Suite 610-93 Bend, OR 97701.

About The Rebecca Foundation: TRF is a community volunteer organization created by Rebecca Vaughn and Amanda La Bell in Maryville, TN in 2012. Rebecca was only 9 years old at the time she approached her mother, Amanda, wishing to help her local community and struggling parents with sustainable options of cloth diapers. Rebecca became aware of the impact that diaper need had on her own family especially her little sister and how it became alleviated through the use of cloth diapers. Since that time the organization has relocated its headquarters to Bend, OR and has grown to over 100 community based chapters in cities and counties across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico. Servicing all struggling families with cloth diapers no matter where they are located through their "Ship a Box of Love" program.
