Manhunt widens for possible Calif. killer, children
Tip line: 1-866-5AMBER5; new sighting reports in Wash., Nevada
LAKESIDE, Calif. (AP) — Amber Alerts expanded to Nevada, Oregon and Washington as authorities search for a California man suspected of abducting a 16-year-old girl and wanted in the death of the girl's mother and possibly her 8-year-old brother.
Oregon state police said there were two possible sighting of James Lee DiMaggio's blue Nissan Versa on Wednesday.
In Washington, state police told KOMO radio that a driver near Bremerton reported seeing a blue Nissan hatchback on Highway 101 on Thursday morning with a man driving and a woman passenger.
The Amber Alert in Nevada was posted on Thursday.
On Sunday night, authorities found the body of 42-year-old Christina Anderson and a child when they extinguished flames at DiMaggio's rural home about 65 miles east of San Diego.
Police issued Amber Alerts Wednesday and reported possible sightings in northeast California and then near Lakeview in south-central Oregon.
The AMBER Alert was expanded to Nevada on Thursday, and there was a new sighting report in Bremerton, Wash.
Senior Trooper Daniel Swift, an OSP spokesman, said Thursday the police haven't concluded the report was erroneous. He says they didn't get tips that would lead them to search any specific place for the car, and they're still on the lookout for it.
OSP asked the public to call the AMBER Alert tip line with any tips related to Wednesday afternoon's AMBER Alert activation in Oregon.
The AMBER Alert tip line is 1-866-5AMBER5 (1-866-526-2375). The tipline is staffed at the OSP Northern Command Center in Salem until further advised. Calling 9-1-1 is a secondary option for calls.
"We appreciate the interest in our efforts to assist San Diego County, California Sheriff's Office regarding the search for the suspect, missing children, and vehicle," the update said.

The statewide AMBER Alert, which also broke in on all TV and radio broadcasts, prompted a flurry of possible car sightings late Wednesday afternoon, including Bend and the Terrebonne areas. More sightings occurred Thursday.
Although some of the reported sightings aren't panning out, OSP Lt. Gregg Hastings told CNN Wednesday evening the ones that led to the AMBER Alert are still very much alive.
"As to the best of my knowledge we are proceeding forward and we continue to search, very actively," he said. "Troopers and deputies and other officers are heavily covering the areas. And we'll follow up on any leads we get.
"The possible sighting came from a local business, and we've seen surveillance of a vehicle that matches the description of the suspect vehicle but we can't see the plates on it. And we have this based on the other what we feel is legitimate tip out of Alturas, California. We are NOT turning our back to this and we are doing what we can to locate that suspect vehicle and the missing children."
Here's the rest of the original AMBER Alert announcement: We'll have updates as available.
