OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) — A Portland-area woman has been sentenced to 3 ½ years in prison after a jury convicted her of forgery and aggravated theft in the embezzlement of $225,000 from an auto business.
The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/SNefOf ) that Kristina Kaino-Smith was sentenced Tuesday in Clackamas County Circuit Court. She worked for Rick Jones Motor Co. as a bookkeeper and office manager and also handled Jones' personal finances.
Jurors were told that Kaino-Smith forged Jones' name on checks she wrote to herself for 18 months, using the money for Hawaiian vacations, spa visits, expensive make-up, gifts and shopping trips.
Jones says he's been left with a "huge mess" that will take several years to straighten out.
