The sounds of America's favorite game show are just as familiar as the faces. Wheel of Fortune taped shows in Portland the last weekend of March.
Thousands of screaming fans filled every seat in the Oregon Convention Center to watch contestants carefully choose consonants and vowels, all in the hopes of solving the puzzle. But fans were also there for their fellow Portlanders when the wheel ruined their turn.
Backstage, Pat Sajak told me and Tony Willard from our Promotions Department what he liked about his Rose City fans.
"They're enthusiastic, but they're kind of polite," he said. "Sometimes with a big crowd, it gets a little rowdy, it's hard to almost talk over them, but they've been great.".
Sajak and Vanna White liked more than just the people of Portlandia.
You've always seen White dressed up, but she was dressed down in sweats and a pair of Uggs when she talked with me about her very "local" wardrobe for the Portland shows.
"I'm wearing lots of clothes from around Portland, and I'm also wearing some eco-friendly clothes," said White.
Now that's something eco-concious Oregonians can cheer about. The University of Oregon Cheer Squad showed performed during the tapings of College Week, and hidden in the middle of the audience U of O's pep band kept the crowd's energy up.
After all the shows, select audience members got their chance to take pictures with White.
To see who won big, and who went home empty-handed but with a once in a lifetime experience tune in to Wheel of Fortune.
