The Serendipity West Foundation (SWF) would like to inform our community members about the “Challenge Day Student Poster Contest.” These posters were made by students in support of the Challenge Day event held at Madras High School in September 2012.
The students of Madras High School have designed posters that support the Challenge Day efforts in their school. The student that gets the most votes for his/her poster will receive a $100 scholarship award presented by the Serendipity West Foundation. SWF is a non-profit organization based out of Bend, OR. They work to bring Challenge Day to Central Oregon middle and high schools. The Challenge Day organization believes separation, isolation, and lowliness are the root cause of a wide range of teen issues such as teasing, bullying, stereotyping, racism, violence, suicide, and the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.
These Challenge Days are one day events where 100 students and 30 to 35 adult volunteers spend an entire day working on “ice-breakers,” team exercises, presentations, and small group discussions that help students understand and appreciate both their differences and similarities.
