BEND, Ore. -

The Nature of Words is the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Edna L. Holmes, Robert W. and Marjorie C. Chandler, and Cushman Family Funds of The Oregon Community Foundation. The grant's purpose is to sustain and expand educational programs that provide creative writing instruction to Central Oregon youth and adults.

Programs include Words Without Walls, providing creative writing instruction in schools and alternative educational programs, and The Storefront Project, offering free, drop-in creative writing workshops for teens after school and specialty workshops for youth and adults.

The mission of The Nature of Words is to strengthen and support the literary arts and humanities in the high desert region of the Northwest through community interaction with acclaimed authors, and through creative writing programs for youth and adults.
