BEND, Ore. -

The Bethlehem Inn will be the recipient of $6,200 from four Central Oregon Community 101 High School Grants including Redmond High School, Sisters High School, Summit High School and Brown Education Center.

The Redmond High School funding will support the Inn?s Sobriety First program aimed at eliminating drug and alcohol use while staying at the Inn. Funding will be applied towards the purchase of breathalyzer tubes and drug testing kits.

The Sisters, Redmond and Brown High Schools? Community 101 grant funding will be directed toward the Inn?s Needs Now project for the Inn?s Families First program, which experienced a 75% increase in families last year. Needs Now funding will be applied towards the purchase of immediate needs including new flooring in the family dining room, a new bath tub for one family unit, dining room shelving to store each family?s food supplies and a commercial washer.

Community Grants are made possible through collaborative efforts between each high school, foundations and private parties.

Summit and Redmond High Schools collaborated with the Oregon Community Foundation and PGE Foundation. Brown Education Center collaborated with OCF and The Collins Foundation. Sisters High School collaborated with OCF, PGE Foundation, Bob and Yvette Chandler Fund of OCF, Carolyn and Rodger Gabrielson, Jessie Lea and Curtis Abbott, Valerie and Robert Collins, Nancy and Richard Elliot, Fred and Ted Johnson, Mike and Sue Fisher and Lori and Less Cooper.

The Bethlehem Inn provided shelter, food and support to 786 individuals and children last year; 60,000 meals were served to those in crisis. Another 200 non-residents received food and support services.
