DUFUR, Ore. (AP) — People from all over the world are supporting a 5-year-old girl who is trying to hang on to her pet rooster in the Columbia River Gorge town of Dufur, where the mayor says it has to go because of a noise complaint.
Mayor Arthur Smith is also the nuisance enforcement officer and presided over a meeting Tuesday on the complaint.
The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/1ew9lmV ) 50 people crowded into the hearing room. No one spoke against Dallas, the rooster.
Five-year-old Ayla Macnab slept through the meeting on her mother's lap.
Smith has 10 days to decide whether to uphold the noise ordinance.
More than 22,000 people have signed an online petition to support the Macnab family, and nearly 7,000 have liked the "Saving Dallas the rooster" Facebook page.
