Upholding a history of excellence, intermediate 4-H Horse project members brought home top honors from the Spring Horse Classic 2012.
Spring Horse Classic is a statewide event that 4-H members attend who have first competed at their local level and won the opportunity to compete at the state level. This year?s event included representatives from over half of the counties from Oregon. The event was held April 27-29, in Baker City, OR.
Deschutes County sent a horse bowl team: Lauren Walley, Lauren Curl, Heidi Dreyer, Elizabeth Larson, & Olivia Schmitt all from Bend; this team competed in a double elimination quiz bowl event with horse knowledge as the topic, their wins added up to a State Championship. Additionally, a hippology team (this is written knowledge, combined with a team presentation and judging of horses) of: Lauren Walley, Lauren Curl, Elizabeth Larson, and Heidi Dreyer also took home top honors.
The Deschutes County horse judging team: Kristen Achterhof of Redmond, and Lauren Curl, Elizabeth Larson, Heidi Dreyer, placed 2nd in the state competition. All three teams were coached by Barb Walley and Karissa Dishon. Their success is the culmination of practice, commitment and dedication.
In addition to the team placings, Elizabeth Larson was the state champion in hippology, 3rd in judging and 4th in horsebowl; Lauren Walley placed 3rd in horse bowl and 8th in hippology; Lauren Curl placed 7th in hippology.
