The Boy Scouts are "discussing potentially removing the national membership restriction regarding sexual orientation," according to Deron Smith, director of public relations for the Boy Scouts of America.

The Scouts' current policy denies membership to "individuals who are open or avowed homosexuals or who engage in behavior that would become a distraction to the mission of the BSA," the group's website says.
There are over 2.5 million youth members and over 1 million adult members nationwide, according to the BSA website.
