Hot Tub Motor Sparks Sunriver House Fire

$30,000 Damage to Deck, Garage

POSTED: 10:54 am PDT September 7, 2010
The holiday weekend ended badly for two people at a Sunriver home where an overheated hot tub motor apparently sparked a fire Monday night that damaged the deck and garage, officials said.

Sunriver and La Pine firefighters responded around 10:10 p.m. to the reported structure fire at No. 12 Lost Lane in Sunriver, said Jim Bennett, public information officer for Sunriver Fire and Rescue.

The two adult occupants of the two-story home reported the fire was on an outside deck in the hot tub area, Bennett said.

Arriving fire crews found the fire also had spread to both the exterior and an interior side of an attached garage, he said.

Firefighters had the blaze out within minutes, Bennett said, but not before it caused an estimated $30,000 damage.

There were no injuries, as the two occupants had evacuated before firefighters arrived, he said.

Nearly a dozen firefighters were involved, along with two engines, a ladder truck and an ambulance.
