CULVER, Ore. -- Wine drinkers who wanted to re-live a classic "I Love Lucy" episode, or who have ever wanted to stomp on grapes, were invited to do just that Saturday, for a worthy cause. The Maragas Winery in Culver held its first annual grape stomp, to support The Partnership to End Poverty.A portion of the wine made from those stomped grapes will then be bottled and sold to raise funds for the anti-poverty group.Winery owner Doug Maragas came up with theidea.“We brought (the grapes) and split it into two picking bins,” he said. "Folks jump in, and they stomp the whole cluster of grapes. And by the time they are done, they are ready to ferment.”Maragas says the expression on people’s faces when they step into the grape-filled bins is priceless. The wine from those stomped grapes will be called "Central Oregon Tootsie."Maragas Winery harvested a half-ton of grapes for the event. Live jazz music was played for visitors as they enjoyed a glass of wine and the unusual sight.
