Redmond man was killed when his sport utility truck crossed center line, struck empty log truck head on, OSP says.
BLODGETT, Ore. -- A Redmond man was killed Wednesday morning when his sport utility truck crossed the center line of Highway 20 west of Corvallis and collided with an empty log truck, Oregon State Police reported.Duane Asle Haugen, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred around 9:50 a.m. just west of Blodgett, said OSP Lt. Mark Cotter.Haugen was heading east when his 2007 Honda Ridgeline crossed the center line and collided with a westbound 1984 Peterbilt truck driven by Michael Brown, 57, of Philomath, Cotter said.Haugen was wearing his seat belt, and the Honda’s air bags deployed, the lieutenant said.Brown was flown by REACH air ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis with non-life-threatening injuries, Cotter said.The crash closed Highway 20 for three hours, until it was open to one lane for both directions. ODOT crews coordinated clean-up efforts until the highway was completely open Wednesday afternoon.Benton County sheriff’s deputies, Corvallis police, and Philomath and Blodgett firefighters assisted at the scene. NW Firefighters Environmental crews cleaned up a diesel spill at the scene.The cause of the crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
