I'm a big fan of the quote, "Embrace the detours" -- because that is what I have done to finally arrive here in Bend at NewsChannel 21.
Originally from the beautiful town of Longview, Washington, I left to attend college at Gonzaga University in Spokane, where I studied broadcasting and journalism.
I've always been a big reader, but it was in college that I became a big writer -- and also where I became enchanted with the combination of technology and creativity that is broadcast journalism.
During college, I spent a year living in Italy, and instead of quenching my thirst for travel, it only increased it. Such that, after college I spent about three years living and traveling abroad, starting with backpacking through Central America, then moving to Australia for a year and a half, where I worked my way around the country, and then finally making my way to Southeast Asia for further exploration.
When I returned Stateside, I got into the business of online journalism, working at a start-up company based in Portland and eventually moving to the Philippines city of Manila to set up an overseas news bureau.
After returning home once again, I and a colleague decided to take off on a road trip, create a YouTube channel and see what would happen.
What happened was we found jobs selling corn dogs at music festivals in Atlanta, and I learned that I enjoyed being in front of the camera, as well as behind it. So, I decided to return to news. And I'm very happy that I did. I have always loved Central Oregon, and I'm looking forward to telling your stories.
Aside from travel and news, I'm passionate about running and the outdoors -- in particular, trail running. When I'm not reading the top headlines from around the world, or planning trips, or drinking good coffee, you can find me on a trail.
