200-acre Culver-area brushfire destroys at least 3 homes

A wind-fueled brushfire exploded near Lake Billy Chinook in Cove Palisades State Park Saturday morning and raced east across at least 200 acres into the Culver area, burning at least three homes as residents were evacuated and crews battled on the ground and from the air to stop the flames.

The number of homeless children in the U.S. has surged in recent years to an all-time high of 2.5 million, which means one child in every 30 will go to sleep without a home, according to a new report from the National Center on Family Homelessness.
