Cadillac used the North American International Auto Show in Detroit Tuesday to unveil its new ATS Coupe and its new logo.
First, the car. The ATS Coupe is built on the same platform as the popular ATS Sedan. It's smaller than the Cadillac CTS, which is also available as a sedan or coupe.
The ATS Coupe is squarely targeting competitors like the BMW 4-series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
The Cadillac hopes to take on that competition with two engine choices. There's a 2-liter four-cylinder turbo that generates 272 horsepower, or you can have a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with 321 horsepower. The coupe is available in rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations.
Inside, there's a nine-speaker Bose sound system with an active noise-canceling feature that minimizes road and wind noise. Cadillac is also blending a mix of materials in the cabin with extensive use of leather, aluminium, carbon fiber and wood.
The speedometer and navigation directions can be projected on the windshield as part of a heads-up display in front of the driver. Or the driver can customize the three-window instrument cluster, which includes a 5.7-inch screen.
While cars typically get redesigned every four to five years, car logos tend to stick around much longer. That's why it's refreshing to see that Cadillac has updated its logo with a wider, cleaner crest, and the logo drops the wreath around the crest.
Watch for the new logo on the new ATS Coupe late this summer; it is expected to appear on other Cadillac models for the 2015 model year.
