EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - A trade publication says prices in the depressed lumber industry have begun to rise.
The Eugene trade publication Random Lengths says the recent price of framing lumber was up 9.7 percent from a year ago, structural panels up 2.6 percent.
Editor Shawn Church says production has been slashed enough to match demand, and now distributors and dealers are rebuilding inventories.
Church says it's not clear whether the industry will, or can, ramp up production right away. New supplies of lumber hitting the market could drive the price back down.
Earlier this month the Western Wood Products Association, a Portland trade group, said there are signs of an industry recovery next year.
