Snowstorm hits High Desert hard; travel discouraged

The first big winter storm of the season dropped several inches of snow across the High Desert on Tuesday, causing so many crashes and slide-offs authorities were prompted to advise against travel if at all possible. Dozens if not hundreds of motorists were stuck for three hours or more at slick Highway 97 south of town at Lava Butte.
