Bidders defaulted on three forest parcels south of Sunriver; Forest Service turns to online auction

Initial sales fell through

From KTVZ.COM news sources

The Forest Service is selling three parcels of land totaling 327 acres on the Deschutes National Forest. Located south of Sunriver. The parcels will be sold through an online auction conducted by the General Services Administration. The auction begins October 24, and will run a minimum of 30 days. Actual bid closing dates will be determined based on bidding activity.

Called the "Tract C" project, this land sale stems from the 2000 Bend Pine Nursery Land Conveyance Act, which authorized the sale of several tracts of land that have lost their national forest character and are difficult to manage. The Bend Metro Park and Recreation District purchased 185 acres in northeast Bend for $3.5 million under the Act.

Last summer, the Forest Service advertised the four parcels that comprise "Tract C" of the legislation. A company affiliated with Sunriver Resorts was the high bidder for the largest 617-acre parcel, and purchased the property last fall for $7.25 million.

The high bidders for the other three parcels defaulted on the sale contracts, and these parcels are now being re-advertised. All bid deposits were kept from the defaulted contracts.

All three parcels are approximately twenty miles south of Bend and are 104, 183 and 40-acre units. Two parcels lie on the south side of Vandevert Road. The third parcel is southwest of Sunriver and straddles Foster Road. Required minimum bids range from $125,000 to $250,000. In order to participate, registration deposits in a range from $25,000 to $50,000 are required from bidders.

The Tract C invitation to bid (IFB) package at www.auctionrp.com contains property information, minimum bids, bid forms, required bid deposits and other sale terms. Maps and title reports are also available online. Copies of the IFB are also available at the Deschutes National Forest Supervisor's Office, 1001 SW Emkay Drive, Bend, or by calling (541) 383-5300.

For more information about the property, contact Diana Hsieh, Deschutes National Forest, at (541) 383-5527. Contact Lisa Roundtree, with the General Services Administration, at (253) 931-7709 for information about the bidding process or sale terms.

Bids will be opened daily starting October 24, and will be posted at the auction site at www.auctionrp.com.
