Multnomah County Chairman Ted Wheeler reports on his Twitter and Facebook accounts that he has a broken back and cuts following a skiing accident at Mount Bachelor.

The T6 and T7 discs are broken, one badly compressed, he wrote. Wheeler said he expects a full recovery and has no signs of paralysis.

Though wearing a helmet, which Wheeler wrote "probably saved my life," he said his wife told him he was "out cold" for five minutes.

He sent out a photo of himself resting in a hospital bed at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend.

"I don't remember it, but I must have hit rocks under the snow," Wheeler said on Twitter, adding, "Stuff happens."
