A 22-year-old Bend transient says he was attacked twice in less than an hour late Wednesday night, and police arrested two young men and a woman, all transients, on assault and theft charges.
Around 9:40 p.m., Bend police responded to the area of Bellatazza Coffee and the breezeway from Wall Street to Brooks Street, where the victim said he'd just been assaulted by the men and woman, whom he knew, said Sgt. Ron Taylor.
The victim was hit in the head by one person, but was unhurt, Taylor said. Officers were unable to find the three, and the victim did not wish to press charges, Taylor said.
Then, around 10:36 p.m., officers were dispatched to a reported robbery in the area of Pioneer Park, farther north on Wall Street.
The man said he was approached by a group, including the three involved in the earlier incident.
The victim said he tried to call 911 before any altercation took place, but Mariah Starr Gaut-Kukuk, 19, took his cell phone and broke it.
He said Devin C. Sipes-Young, 18, and Robert D. Kamp, 20, then hit and kicked him, leaving him with scrapes and bruises. The woman also took the man's PSP game after he was knocked to the ground.
The three suspects were found at the Summit Saloon at 125 NW Oregon Ave., Taylor said.
Sipes-Young was held without bail on a probation violation, as well as third-degree assault charge. Kamp was held on $20,000 bail on a third-degree assault charge, while Gaut-Kukuk was charged with second-degree theft and interference with making a report. She was released on her own recognizance Thursday morning, and is due in court Nov. 19, a jail spokesman said.
